This year to celebrate National Family Literacy month, our Little School family and friends are reading, Nuts to You by Lynne Rae Perkins, with their classmates each day. We have fun activities planned such as a scavenger hunt which sets classrooms off in search of the missing squirrel, Jed, much like the characters in the book.
We chose the book because of its theme of friendship and family and because it is full of adventure! Classes will answer daily trivia questions about the book and we will announce the winner (for bragging rights) at the end of the month. It has also been honored with a MA Book Award.
As a link to home, we are asking students to read each night and choose a title to record on an acorn. They will return their title and illustration on the cutout acorn so we can build a bulletin board which will not only enhance our halls but also serve as a "got to read" suggestion board!
We hope you will encourage reading at home not only this month, but throughout the year!
