On Friday, January 11, five fourth and five fifth graders competed in the National Geographic Geography Bee. Those top finalists were: Helena Brain, Maeve Easler, Zachary Emery, Kevin Gu, Adhvay Karthikeyan, Connor Abruzzese, David Duran, Riley Maibor, John Pastore, and Angelina Zeng.
Finalists were chosen based on the results of a written test taken earlier in the school year; the top five scorers in each grade were chosen to compete in Friday's Bee. The students were asked a series of challenging geography questions in two rounds. The questions covered both U.S and world geography. First place honors were earned by Adhvay Karthikeyan, followed by Riley Maibor in second place and Maeve Easler in third place. Adhvay is now eligible for the next round of competition, leading to the National Geography Bee in Washington, D.C. Congratulations to all the students who competed - it is quite an accomplishment!
