Plimoth Plantation Traveling Workshops visited the second grade classes in early November. Tim Turner, a Native American Museum Teacher, instructed the students about 17th century, daily life of the Wampanoag people of Southeastern Massachusetts. The second graders learned about four aspects of Wampanoag culture: food, clothing, shelter and tools. Passing around traditional artifacts of the 1600s, such as animal furs, wooden bowls and stone axes, the classes had a hands-on lesson in Native American history. The second graders put their social studies knowledge to use and asked Mr. Turner amazing questions. At the end of the program, the students came away with a better understanding of the traditions and way of life of the Wampanoag people, who have lived in this region for over 10,000 years.
